The Hunter Valley Equine Research Centre (HVERC) was founded as a charitable institution in November, 1999. Research facilities were built on a site just out of Scone, NSW, immediately adjacent to the Scone racecourse.

The goals of the HVERC are to foster and support equine research in Australia, with a particular focus on the Hunter Valley region. The Hunter Valley is the breeding ground of around half of all Thoroughbred horses born in Australia, as well as horses from many other breeds. The Australian Stock Horse Society headquarters are also in Scone.

The HVERC aims to play an active role in increasing the volume of horse research that occurs here in Australia. The outbreak of equine influenza in 2007 highlights the importance of effective diagnosis and prevention technologies for all horse diseases.

NEWS: HVERC currently hosts an electronic library of veterinary journals, specifically for equine veterinarians and other animal health professionals in the Upper Hunter area. Membership is $250 p.a. The Veterinary Library menu above provides more information about the Library, including applications for membership.
